Money.

The word is emotionally charged for nearly everyone.

When Beverly’s husband left her, money and the things money had acquired were the only sources of security in her life. She couldn’t bear to throw anything away and clung to the things that held her to the past.

Only when her emotional suffering caused her body to react with excruciating pain did she realize that she had to let go.

She picked up a garbage bag and began to fill it with unnecessary objects. Instantly, a weight left her body and a feeling of lightness filled her mind. Without realizing it, Beverly was on a journey towards contentment.

Today’s verse links two seemingly unrelated things — the love of money and a promise of faithfulness. When I married my husband, I felt that I could happily live in a tent if only I had him beside me forever. The importance of things falls away in the presence of faithful love.

Julia Hill says that “our society as a whole, because we have placed our love for money above our love for life, has devalued the sacred and devalued love.”

The Author of life and love appeals to us to find financial freedom by focusing on His love that never fails.
