“He is not here, for He has risen, just like He said!” The angel’s stirring pronouncement in Matthew 28:6, as Jesus’ friends gazed at an empty tomb, turned the page to a whole new chapter in human history.
Our sin-free Lord died to save every sinful child of God who believed and who accepted His sacrifice. Then, after overcoming sin, He overcame the grave! What a Savior! What a glorious promise that we, too, can follow where He leads.
Jesus foretold His own resurrection
Becoming terrified, they bowed their faces down to the earth. They said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He isn’t here, but is risen. Remember what he told you when he was still in Galilee, saying that the Son of Man must be delivered up into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and the third day rise again?”
Jesus is the resurrection; believing in Him is the key to eternal life
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies. Whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
Christ wants His followers to tell others about His resurrection
He is not here, for he has risen, just like he said. Come, see the place where the Lord was lying. Go quickly and tell his disciples, “He has risen from the dead, and behold, he goes before you into Galilee; there you will see him.” Behold, I have told you.
The risen Jesus continues to lead His followers
Entering into the tomb, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, dressed in a white robe, and they were amazed. He said to them, “Don’t be amazed. You seek Jesus, the Nazarene, who has been crucified. He has risen. He is not here. Behold, the place where they laid him! But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He goes before you into Galilee. There you will see him, as he said to you.’”
Jesus observed the Sabbath; His resurrection occurred after Sabbath was over
When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, that they might come and anoint him. Very early on the first day of the week, they came to the tomb when the sun had risen.
King David foretold Jesus’ resurrection centuries before it happened
Brothers, I may tell you freely of the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, he would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne, he foreseeing this spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that his soul wasn’t left in Hades, and his flesh didn’t see decay. This Jesus God raised up, to which we all are witnesses.
Jesus prophesied His resurrection as a sign of His divinity
The Jews therefore answered him, “What sign do you show us, seeing that you do these things?” Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” The Jews therefore said, “It took forty-six years to build this temple! Will you raise it up in three days?” But he spoke of the temple of his body. When therefore he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he said this, and they believed the Scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.
Christ’s resurrection enlightens all humanity
How the Christ must suffer, and how, by the resurrection of the dead, he would be first to proclaim light both to these people and to the Gentiles.
God gifts those who testify of Jesus’ resurrection with power and grace
With great power, the apostles gave their testimony of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. Great grace was on them all.
Jesus’ close friends saw Him after His resurrection and testified to it
Of the men therefore who have accompanied us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, beginning from the baptism of John, to the day that he was received up from us, of these one must become a witness with us of his resurrection.
