Obedience is not servitude. Obedience — to family, to friends, to people in positions of authority over us, and to God — is done willingly. It’s a decision marked by devotion, commitment, and love.
Obedience transforms my behavior
1 Peter 1:14-15
As children of obedience, not conforming yourselves according to your former lusts as in your ignorance, but just as he who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all of your behavior.
I serve whomever I obey
Romans 6:16
Don’t you know that when you present yourselves as servants and obey someone, you are the servants of whomever you obey; whether of sin to death, or of obedience to righteousness?
People pay attention; they notice who I obey
Romans 16:19
For your obedience has become known to all. I rejoice therefore over you. But I desire to have you wise in that which is good, but innocent in that which is evil.
