If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Brene Brown is a shame expert.
She is a renowned research professor who has spent years studying shame, guilt, courage, and vulnerability. Her research has impacted thousands of lives and has transformed the way many view shame and guilt.
In Browns’ research, she discovered that shame is focused on self, whereas guilt is focused on the behavior.
It is believed that humans can experience feelings of shame as early as 15 months old. If not rewired, we can easily fall into a perpetual “state of shame” where we harbor feelings of unworthiness and failure. These feelings can be very painful and destructive.
Many of us struggle with shame. Unresolved shame often leads many to live in despair and hopelessness.
As Christians, shame robs us of receiving God’s healing from past hurt and sin. Instead of acknowledging our mistakes and growing from them, we let feelings of shame consume us and distance us from God.
God has a better way for you and me. When we confess our sins, He forgives us and cleanses us!
We don’t have to live in guilt and shame. We don’t have to rehearse our painful pasts. We don’t have to beat ourselves up over the wrongs we’ve committed because God forgives every single sin. All we have to do is confess our faults and receive His cleansing.
What feelings of shame do I need to give over to God? I will do so now, confessing them to Him, and claiming the promise of this verse in all confidence. Thank God for His cleansing power!
Gracious God, Thank You for forgiving me of my sins. Thank You for cleansing me. In You there is no shame. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
