How Shall I Worship God?

The Bible is clear: God doesn’t want empty words or actions. He desires true, heartfelt worship from His children. “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your might” (Deuteronomy 6:5).
People worship God in different ways. How, then, shall we worship?
Worship with gifts and thanksgiving
Deuteronomy 26:10
Now, behold, I have brought the first of the fruit of the ground, which you, the LORD, have given me.” You shall set it down before the LORD your God, and worship before the LORD your God.
Outwardly prepare for worship
2 Samuel 12:20
Then David arose from the earth, and washed and anointed himself, and changed his clothing; and he came into the LORD’s house, and worshiped. Then he came to his own house; and when he requested, they set bread before him and he ate.
Worship with offerings and my best clothes
1 Chronicles 16:29
Ascribe to the LORD the glory due to his name. Bring an offering, and come before him. Worship the LORD in holy array.
Gladly worship with psalms and songs of praise
2 Chronicles 29:30
Moreover Hezekiah the king and the princes commanded the Levites to sing praises to the LORD with the words of David, and of Asaph the seer. They sang praises with gladness, and they bowed their heads and worshiped.
Kneel before God in worship
Psalm 95:6
Oh come, let’s worship and bow down. Let’s kneel before the LORD, our Maker.
Worship with fasting and petitions
Luke 2:36-37
There was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher (she was of a great age, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity, and she had been a widow for about eighty-four years), who didn’t depart from the temple, worshiping with fastings and petitions night and day.
Worship with sacrifice and offerings
Isaiah 19:21
The LORD will be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians will know the LORD in that day. Yes, they will worship with sacrifice and offering, and will vow a vow to the LORD, and will perform it.
I will bring my treasures when I worship God
Matthew 2:11
They came into the house and saw the young child with Mary, his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Opening their treasures, they offered to him gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
I will hold on to Jesus when I worship
Matthew 28:9
As they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, “Rejoice!” They came and took hold of his feet, and worshiped him.
Worship in spirit and in truth
John 4:23-24
But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such to be his worshipers. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.
