In a world where everyone is trying to give their attention to multiple things at once, it is a rare and treasured moment when we know that we have someone’s complete attention.

One of my favorite things to do with my close friends is to carve out some time to simply be in each other’s presence and catch up on life. I enjoy listening to all the random details of their everyday life since we last talked, and I enjoy sharing with them as well.

Being made in the image of our relational God, we are made for connection.

Psalm 116:1-2 tells us that God pays attention to us. He leans in close to hear the things that we would say to Him. Prayer isn’t just empty words taking up space, it is a conversation with our God who desires to hear from us.

How comforting to know that the ear of the God of the universe is attuned to our voices!

Whatever situation in which we find ourselves, we can find joy and comfort in the fact that God will hear our cries to Him. Just as a friend will lean in close to listen to the good and the bad, God leans in, blessing us with His full attention, listening to what we would trust Him with.
