Many times in my life I have not felt very courageous.

I remember when I was much younger and learning how to jump into the water from a diving board. I knew how to swim and my father had instructed me on how to position myself while entering the water so I wouldn’t hurt myself. Yet, there I stood, feet firmly planted while I stared at the water, worrying that I would somehow jump wrong and get hurt.

Eventually, I trusted my father’s advice, worked up the courage to jump, and discovered — to my delight — that there really had been nothing to worry about.

So often we stand paralyzed in fear, worrying about little things. Yet, God has so much more in store for us and we are promised an inheritance that is far greater than anything we worry over in this life.

This verse tells us that God has an inheritance for His children: a land He wants to give us. We are promised heaven, but worrying won’t help us get there. Instead, God would have us be courageous, standing firmly on His promises of eternal life.

We can walk confidently through the many things this life throws at us because we have been promised another life in the land God has prepared for us!
