My Refuge

by Darla Noble

Psalm 5:11

But let all those who take refuge in you rejoice. Let them always shout for joy, because you defend them. Let them also who love your name be joyful in you.

When my heart was grieving over the loss of my beloved grandmother, I took refuge in the comfort of the Lord.

When I was broken-hearted because one of my children was making poor choices, I took refuge in the Lord’s promise that He would never leave nor forsake them.

When I lay near death in the hospital, I took refuge in the Lord’s comfort and healing touch, asking Him to restore me to my family for a little while longer.

In those times when it didn’t look like there would be enough money to pay the bills I took refuge in the Lord’s promise to provide.

Each time I called out to Him, He answered. He reminded me of His extraordinary love and filled my heart with joy. He will do the same for you. Make Him your refuge too!

Reflection

What areas of my life am I keeping from God? What might happen if I gave everything to Him? What is keeping me from experiencing His true joy and unconditional love?

Prayer

Dear Lord, Please make me humble. Let me trust You in all things and experience the joy that comes from making You my defender, Lord of my life. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
