So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Satisfy us in the morning with your loving kindness, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
Far too many people chase after things that won’t last.
They use all their talents to store up treasures on earth. They search for pleasures and rewards that will wither and fade like the grass.
In today’s verse, the psalmist humbly asks God to teach him to number his days on earth — to make the most of them, according to God’s will and purpose.
No one knows how long we will live, but all agree that time passes quickly. Therefore, we need to use our time wisely. None of us wants to die with regrets for what should have or could have been.
A challenge for today: keep a detailed log of how your time is spent, and on what activities.
At the end of the day, ask Jesus to open your heart and mind to how you can use your time more wisely for spiritual growth.
When choosing how you will live out your years on earth, remember that the best choice you can make is to serve the living God who loves and knows you even better than you know yourself.
How am I using my time? What does a “heart of wisdom” mean to me?
Holy God, Please teach me to realize that my days are numbered. Help me live each day with the hope of eternity with You. Inspire me to wisely use what time I have. Whatever I do, let it all be for Your glory. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
