So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Satisfy us in the morning with your loving kindness, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
Psalm 90:12, 14
Far too many people chase after things that won’t last. They use all their talents to store up treasures on earth. They search for pleasures and rewards that will wither and fade with the grass.
The psalmist humbly asks God to teach him to number his days on earth—to make the most of them according to God’s will and purpose. None of us knows how long we will live, but all would agree that time passes quickly. Therefore we need to use our time wisely. None of us wants to die with regrets for what should have or could have been.
When choosing how you will live out your years on earth, remember that the best choice you can make is to serve the living God who loves and knows you even better than you know yourself.
Prayer: Father, teach me to number my days and live each day with the hope of eternity with You in mind. Whatever I do, let it all be for the glory of God. In the name of Jesus, I pray, amen.
