I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation, he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
Weddings are expensive!
The average wedding in the US is over thirty thousand dollars. In Australia, it’s $67,000. In the United Arab Emirates, it’s nearly $200,000. Around the world, people pay fortunes just to adorn themselves and their surroundings for marriage.
When we were planning my wedding, my fiancé and I had a budget to work with. We decided that instead of spending a fortune on a wedding dress, we’d use our funds to pay for the attire of our wedding party since most of our friends couldn’t afford to. I still needed a dress, however. So I prayed for a miracle.
Wouldn’t you know it, the first shop I went to, I fell in love with the first dress I tried on. It was beautiful. It was brand new. It was $50!
As Christians, our faith is our spiritual clothing. We can’t shop for that. We come to God just as we are. He gives us courage. He teaches us patience. He makes us look at others with understanding. He makes our characters lovely. God’s Spirit beautifies our faulty character.
God cares for our physical needs, too. When we look to Him to provide, when we put our faith in Him, little by little, our spiritual robe of righteousness becomes more vibrant.
God can make you lovely no matter how empty you are when you come to Him.
What recent struggle have I found to be making my character more beautiful?
Dear God, Thank You for seeing me as something precious and worthy of Your attention. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
