Brenda was unsure whether or not she wanted to bury her husband’s wedding ring with him.

He’d only had it off twice (for surgery) in the sixty-three years they were married. Such a big decision to have to make in two days’ time.

A cousin encouraged her to keep it, explaining she would need those tangible items in the days and months ahead. And so, she did. About a week after the funeral, Brenda did indeed need to hold the ring in her hand. But when she went to get it from where she thought she’d put it, it wasn’t there.

She spent the rest of the day frantically searching. When she called her daughter, sobbing, her daughter was able to calm her down and reason with her to look where she’d already looked (even though Brenda swore she’d re-looked a dozen times). Sure enough, the ring was found.

The ring had been overlooked because Brenda’s grief shoved any sense of calm and reason from her mind. But once she found it, she was fine.

We need to be as desperate to possess God’s wisdom and understanding as Brenda was to find her husband’s ring.
