I waited patiently for the LORD. He turned to me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay. He set my feet on a rock, and gave me a firm place to stand. He has put a new song in my mouth, even praise to our God. Many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.
God heard my cry when I was in despair, even though my predicament was due to my own behavior.
I was in a horrible pit of hopelessness, lost in the darkness of sin. God took me out of there and gave me hope, just as He promises in today’s verse. He showed me mercy and grace and brought me to Jesus. He showed me the truth of the Bible. He made my life new. Now I sing a new song.
John saw God’s people singing a new song (Revelation 5:9; Revelation 14:3).
You will be one of them someday, if your life here on earth belongs to Jesus. But you don’t have to wait for heaven to sing to Jesus. Sing songs of praise today and every day for all the blessings He has given you — especially for the gift of salvation.
Are you going through a difficult time? Is your heart in a dark place? Call out to Jesus.
He will listen to you and will bring you out of despair. He will give you a firm place to stand while giving you something worth singing about.
Do I let Jesus guide me through difficult times? How has He helped me and shown me His love when things looked bleak?
Dear God, Please pull me away from all that is dark and sinful. I long to be closer to You. Please set my feet on the rock of Jesus and give me songs of praise to sing to You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
