The times when I find myself lacking something are when I most often discover the joy of contentment with the smallest things.

I am one of those unlucky individuals who has gotten her luggage lost on multiple occasions, including two mission trips to Brazil.

The first time, my luggage arrived after just a couple days, but ever since, I have learned to pack an extra outfit or two on my small carry-on bag.

The second time, however, my luggage never showed up until my return flight home. On that trip, I learned that even with only two outfits I could be content. I could at least wash one and hang it to dry so the next day I could switch out clothes.

Contentment is often viewed in relation to what we do or do not have. We compare ourselves to other people and we look to society, which tells us we need to get more to be content. However, the Word of God tells us where to look for contentment.

Everything we have, God has supplied. We are called to be content with the food on our tables and the clothes on our back. 1 Timothy 6:6-8 says that godliness and contentment are good for us, and just having our needs met is cause for contentment.
