Your words were found, and I ate them; and your words were to me a joy and the rejoicing of my heart: for I am called by your name, the LORD, God of Hosts.
As a child, I was exposed to superstitious beliefs. I suffered from the horrors of such evil and the memories are forever embedded in my mind. But then one day I ended up in a place where a young preacher was sharing the amazing truth of God’s love straight out of the Bible. I was only a boy at the time, but I knew immediately that I wanted what that young preacher was offering. I wanted Jesus!
I wanted to know as much as I could about the Man who died for my sins. When I asked the preacher how I could do that—how I could learn more—he told me everything I needed to know was in the Bible and that if I read and studied the Bible, God would give me a heart and mind to take it all in.
Since that day, I have not been able to stop reading and studying the Bible. The more I read and listen to the Word of God, the more I realize I cannot live without the Word of God. Indeed, the Word of God brings more joy into my life than anything else.
Abraham Lincoln said this about the Bible, “Take all that you can of this book upon reason, and the balance on faith, and you will live and die a happier man.” I couldn’t agree more. I’ve experienced it first-hand in my life. Have you? Will you?
Prayer: LORD, help me to read and meditate on Your Word diligently and make it the foundation of my life so that I can be a living Bible to people around me. In the matchless beauty of Jesus’ wonderful name, I pray, amen.
