He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does the LORD require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?
Do you have a good life? Is your life fulfilling and satisfying? God lays out the steps to have a good life in today’s verse.
Justice can seem to be relative and for some, may be blind. We are not to enforce our own version of justice. We are to treat others as we want to be treated. We are to feed and clothe our enemies as to turn them into friends. We are to let go of our vengeance and leave it to God.
Mercy is choosing to not mete out what is deserved. We are to forgive people who don’t deserve it or ask for it. We are to give second chances to those who messed up. We are to see in everyone, a sinful, learning, child of God that needs mercy.
Walk Humbly with God
The two commands above seem very difficult to do. In our own strength, we would not be able to act justly and love mercy continuously. It is only through linking ourselves with Jesus and letting Him guide our thoughts, actions, and lives, that we can act justly and love mercy. We should remember that the only power we have is the power to choose God. Everything else comes from God’s help along with our efforts.
Do you want a good life? Ask Jesus to transform you, to empower you to act justly and love mercy always.
Jesus, please come into my heart today. Transform me to follow Your justice and to have Your mercy. Help me to realize that we are all sinners in need of Your grace. Thank You for walking with me today. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, Amen.
