The Word became flesh and lived among us. We saw his glory, such glory as of the only born Son of the Father, full of grace and truth. From his fullness we all received grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses. Grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.
Today’s verse summarizes that Jesus is both God and Man.
1. The Word Became Flesh
Jesus is the eternal Word, who had been with the Father (John 1:1) but became the man, Immanuel, “God with us” (Matthew 1:23).
2. Jesus Lived Among Us
He understands us better than we understand ourselves. God gave Jesus as a sacrifice for our sins (Romans 8:3).
3. We Saw His Glory
Glory is equivalent to the Hebrew word used for the sacred, abiding presence of the Lord, the Shekinah (Exodus 13:21; Exodus 40:34-35).
John saw His glory at the Transfiguration of Jesus (Matthew 17:1-8). Peter calls it “excellent glory” (2 Peter 1:16-18). Glory is also found in Jesus’ prayer: “Now, Father, glorify me with your own self with the glory which I had with you before the world existed” (John 17:5).
4. Full of Grace and Truth
Jesus is full of grace and truth. Grace means “good will,” “loving-kindness,” “undeserved favor,” and “mercy.” Truth refers to the “absolute” nature that is God. God IS, no matter what anyone says or does. He cannot cease to exist. So, when you belong to Jesus, you are filled with His grace and become a recipient of the merits of truth.
If I do not know Jesus as my Savior, what is stopping me from giving Him my heart and soul, so I can have peace, comfort, and salvation for eternity? How would my life change if I let Jesus be my Savior and Lord?
Dear God, Thank You for Jesus. Please fill me with Your grace and truth so I can share them with the people around me. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
