Never Alone

by Beatrice Jean-Baptiste

Colossians 2:10

And in him you are made full, who is the head of all principality and power.

I woke up crying.

Tears began to flow as my pain escaped my body. “I’m lonely. I have no friends,” I sobbed to my husband.

“You have me and the kids,” he replied.

And though his statement was true, there was a gnawing sense of rejection and isolation in my heart. I didn’t have any close friends or relatives who lived nearby. I felt lonely and that morning, I woke up crying and feeling like I didn’t want to go on.

Throughout most of my life, I always had a posse of friends. But as a stay-at-home mom, I lived in isolation and the daily grind of mothering was wearing me out. I needed a breakthrough so I did the only thing I knew to do: I cried out to God in desperation to give me friends. He gave me Jesus, the Greatest Friend of all.

While I was busy complaining about my lack of friends, my Bible was closed and my prayer life was nonexistent. I craved the attention of people because deep down inside, I was empty and the answer to my loneliness could only be found in the fullness of God. I discovered that true joy and fulfillment come from a loving relationship with Jesus. Whenever you feel alone, remember you have a Friend in Jesus.

Reflection

How do I deal with loneliness? How might deepening my relationship with Jesus alleviate my loneliness?

Prayer

Heavenly Friend, Thank You for completing me. In times of loneliness, Your presence fills my heart with joy and comfort. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
