After nine years of marriage, I found myself divorced from an unfaithful spouse and facing homelessness.

One wintry day, an old friend pulled into my driveway to ask me to go ice fishing. He noticed that I had lost a lot of weight and was shaking with tremors.

He took me to the emergency room. Later, he took me to his home and listened while I explained what was happening in my life. I moved in with him and his wife for a short time. His family comforted me. I slowly became myself again, making my children as my priority in life.

My dear friend and his wife invited me to their church. I went with them every week I didn’t have to work. It didn’t take me long to realize that the real comfort I received was from God. He used my Christian friends to reach out to me in a loving, impartial way.

I have often wondered if the outcome would have been different if they had not had a church’s influence in their lives. They took the time to comfort me in a Christ-like way. I will be forever grateful for the comfort of godly friends.
