Expect the Unexpected

by John Simon

Deuteronomy 28:12

The LORD will open to you his good treasure in the sky, to give the rain of your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You will lend to many nations, and you will not borrow.

In the midst of a revival series, the preacher shared a personal story of how God answered his and his wife’s prayer in a wonderful, surprising way.

In the early stages of their marriage, their finances were tight, as is the case with most young couples. Their refrigerator met its end, and they needed a new one. They soon came across a model that met their needs and caught their attention with some very desirable features. It cost $600 — well above what they could afford.

The preacher and his wife prayed earnestly for the Lord’s help. He did not supply $600, but that doesn’t mean He didn’t answer their prayer.

One of their friends notified them of a refrigerator that was available through a private party. It was the exact same model: used, but barely — as close to new as could be. The price? $50!

They rejoiced and praised God for how He provided for them. He did not supply $600. He saved them $550!

It is good to be confident in Jesus Christ’s ability to take care of us, and it is even better to take our confidence to the next level and allow Him to work way beyond our thoughts and imaginations.

Reflection

In what ways has the Lord answered my prayers in a manner that I did not originally anticipate?

Prayer

Dear God, Thank You so much for promising to meet all my needs and always fulfilling Your promises. Please help me to trust You, no matter what. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
