Turn your ear, and come to me. Hear, and your soul will live: and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.
In February 2018, 12-year-old Amy Martinez was on her way to school. Suddenly, a woman grabbed her, held her tightly with one arm, and began forcibly walking the girl away, along a busy street full of morning commuters.
“I thought that I was never going to see my mom or my family again,” Amy said. Terrified, she cried out for help, but no one responded.
No one except a woman who had just dropped her child off at school. As she drove away, she noticed Amy struggling against her abductor. She pulled up alongside.
“Are you okay?” she asked.
Immediately, it became clear that the situation was anything but okay.
“Let her go!” the good Samaritan shouted. “She is my daughter! I want her back. Let her go now!”
Shocked at the sudden outburst, the would-be kidnapper lost her grip on the girl. Amy hurried toward the voice that offered her safety and got into her rescuer’s car. Unharmed, she was later reunited with her family and the kidnapper apprehended.
This world is full of snares that mean us harm. The only way to escape unharmed is to listen for the Savior’s voice and run to Him.
Eternally caring Father,
Thank You for knowing my name.
Thank You for calling me – over and over again.
Please never stop calling me.
Help me to hear Your voice and to respond, running into Your loving arms, Amen.
