“I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you.”
In 1 Kings, we read the story of the prophet Elijah. He is whining to God about being the only one left in the land that honored God. While God definitely had special jobs for Elijah to do and while He definitely recognized Elijah’s faithfulness, He let Elijah know that he wasn’t alone—that he wasn’t the only faithful person left.
Do you ever feel like Elijah? Do you feel like you’re the only person in your office who knows Jesus? The only mom in the playgroup who makes the church a priority for your family? The only guy on the team who doesn’t go out drinking after the game?
You’re not alone! You have brothers, sisters, friends around you. And when you build close relationships with them, you will find more strength and courage. Also, the God who appeared to Paul is there with you now. And He is talking to you, saying, “Don’t be afraid, but speak and don’t be silent; for I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you, for I have many people in this city.” When God asks you to do something, He has already provided you everything you need: courage, faith, love, strength, wisdom, and anything else.
Pray: God, make me bold for You. I am claiming today’s wonderful promise as a personal one. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
