God’s Résumé

by John Michalak

Isaiah 33:5-6, 22

The LORD is exalted, for he dwells on high. He has filled Zion with justice and righteousness. There will be stability in your times, abundance of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge. The fear of the LORD is your treasure. For the LORD is our judge. The LORD is our lawgiver. The LORD is our king. He will save us.

A résumé is often required when applying for a job.

A résumé provides evidence — through details of an applicant’s education and training, job experience, and accomplishments — that the person seeking employment has the qualifications to do good work in the future. A person’s past provides a strong clue to the strength of their performance going forward.

Whether we admit it or not, we interview God over and over again to decide whether we’d like to hire Him to guide us, sustain us, to direct our path going forward.

But, what’s on God’s résumé?

He is exalted and dwells on high.

He constantly fills the lives of His chosen ones with justice and righteousness.

He has outstanding experience as a Judge, Lawgiver, and King.

Reviewing God’s résumé, it seems clear that He’s qualified to bring stability to our times and to offer us an abundance of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge.

While it’s foolish to keep interviewing God, it’s not a bad idea to review His résumé from time to time. You’ll remember why He’s the most qualified Master and Lord of your life there is.

Reflection

Am I repeatedly interviewing God to run the business of my life? What do I feel are His most inspiring qualities?

Prayer

Dear God, Thank You that, even with Your vast knowledge and power, You are still interested in me. Help me to remember that all stability, honor, and justice comes from You. I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
