Scientific Calculus

by Heather Tietz and Joyverse

Jeremiah 10:12

God has made the earth by his power. He has established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding has he stretched out the heavens.

Science is the investigation of God’s blueprints, His recipes, and His music.

Our world is His magnificent design, His living machines, His banquets, and His symphonies. But scientists can only probe into the Almighty mind a minuscule amount. We are too small to reach where only magnificence can go.

God in His wisdom made the world. All of it. All of the wild, the tamed, the poisonous, the dangerous, and the beautiful — earthquakes, avalanches, hurricanes, giant hail storms, rainbows, and roses. He made the sun that grows our plants and nourishes our bodies, though it can also provoke skin cancer and parch riverbeds.

We don’t always grasp how an organism or a trait fits into God’s great plan. Because we don’t understand the delicate balance inherent in all creation, we are called to be Nature’s protectors. “To cultivate and keep it,” according to Genesis 2:15.

God’s nature is scientific calculus to us. We don’t always understand why He allows something to happen. Even when we fail to care for God’s creation, He is able to turn disaster into blessings.

Romans 8:28 says, “We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”

Reflection

What disaster from nature has led to blessing in my life?

Prayer

Dear God, Help me to remember that the land and every living thing on Earth came from Your hand. May I never take Your creation for granted; help me to treat it as a gift from You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
