Our Everywhere God

by John Michalak

1 Timothy 2:5-6

For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, the testimony at the proper time,

St. Patrick is attributed with the following anthem:

Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me, Christ in me.

Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ on my right, Christ on my left.

Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise.

Christ in the hearts of every man who thinks of me, Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me, Christ in every eye that sees me, Christ in every ear that hears me.

In today’s verse, Paul speaks of God and Christ this way. In Him we live and move and have our being.

While God is personal, He is also everywhere present. So, to have a relationship with this everywhere God is to have Him be both the center and boundary of our lives.

What an awesome challenge — that Christ’s Spirit, Christ’s love, Christ’s character, Christ’s peace would move in you and through you. You would have a vision for Christ in everything you see, and others would see the presence of Christ in everything you are.

An impossible task? Not when you offer everything you are to the Creator of everything there is. Do so today, and every day!

Reflection

Do I see Christ as just one person in heaven, or as someone who can also fill me and surround me? I will go to God in prayer that He might fill me all in all.

Prayer

Dear Lord, Please let me see Your touch upon all creation. Magnify in me Your image for all to see. In Christ Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
