I hold fast to my righteousness, and will not let it go. My heart shall not reproach me so long as I live.
Job was broke, alone, and in agony. He doubted he would survive.
He did not know why such bad things — losing his wealth, his children, and his health — happened to him. But for Job, God was everything. Whether God would save him or not, he made up his mind to be faithful to Him.
He knew who God was through his personal experience year by year. In difficult times and good times, he knew God was faithful. There was no doubt in Job’s mind that God was steadfast: the same today, tomorrow, and forever.
When Job lost his children and all he had at once, even his wife told him to turn away from God. But he told her she was foolish.
Moreover, when his body was filled with pain, he firmly said that he would hold fast to his righteousness that only came from God. Nothing could stop his faithfulness.
For Job, any trial and any unfavorable situation only strengthened his loyalty to God.
Do you face unbearable situations at the moment? Remember that God is with you. The God who was with Job will be with you all the way through every situation. Never give up. Hold fast as Job did.
How can I make my faith strong as Job did, holding fast to the righteousness that comes from Jesus?
Gracious God, Please help me always be faithful to You as Job was. I want to be able to say with Job, “my heart shall not reproach me.” In the name of Jesus, who knows my situation so well, I pray, Amen.
