The LORD will give strength to his people. The LORD will bless his people with peace.
Returning home from the war in Vietnam was not easy.
People with signs shouted, accusing us of despicable acts, calling us hateful names, telling us, “We do not want you here!”
One moment I was happy, wanting to kiss American soil, and the next I was faced with hatred. I wondered why those people who did not even know me hated me so much?
I asked myself if the haters were right. My mind started to focus on things that had happened in the war. I soon convinced myself that my life was worthless. I became a bitter workaholic with a short temper and a bad marriage.
Years later, my second wife asked me to go to church. For some reason, I agreed to go. The more I attended church, the more I realized that God’s grace was far greater than anything I had done.
My life changed beyond anything I could have ever imagined. I accepted Christ’s gift of grace. I became involved in the church. Soon, I took preaching classes.
Today I am a Pastor who has graduated from seminary. When most people my age are thinking about their retirement, I work for God every day, full of His joy, His strength, and His peace.
God has truly freed me to live my best life for Him. I pray that He frees you to experience His grace and peace in your life as well.
How does peace come from within when God is in control of my life?
Gracious God, Thank You for Your Son, Jesus Christ. He has not only forgiven me but has also given meaning to my life, filling me with joy, hope, love, and peace. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen!
