Whoever finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favor of the LORD.
Solomon knew what researchers in the Framingham Offspring Study discovered a few years ago: married men are healthier than their single counterparts.
In Proverbs, Solomon gives a word of wisdom to the young men of his day. “Search for a wife. Don’t just carelessly choose one; search.”
He knew there are many people in the world, but a spouse is not so easy to find.
From the very beginning, God realized it was not good for man to be alone (Genesis 2:18). Think of it, a beautiful garden, food at Adam’s fingertips, animals to enjoy, and God Himself. Yet, God saw something was amiss.
Adam had no one to share God’s wonders with, no hands to help him, no physical face to converse with. So God created the union of marriage. He saw a need in Adam and designed the perfect solution. The Bible says, “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor” (Ecclesiastes 4:9). Marriage is designed to help both people involved succeed.
Ultimately, marriage is a reflection of God’s relationship to His church.
He calls us “His bride.” If we have said “Yes” to Him, He is committed to us “for better or for worse.”
God says the Church is His bride. As a member of His church, how can I be a good bride?
Dear Lord, Thank You for the human relationships I enjoy. Thank You for loving me and for never giving up on me — no matter what. Help me to continually turn to You for relationship advice. I love You. Amen.
