The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower.
A missionary friend inadvertently ended up in a dangerous part of the city she was visiting.
Her host family had failed to tell her which areas to avoid and which ones were safe. So, for two weeks, she spent a good part of the day walking up and down the streets and sitting in cafés with radical anti-Christians, gang members, pimps, and mafia members.
The day she left to return home, she casually mentioned the name of a café she’d been going to nearly every day, saying how much she was going to miss the particular kind of tea they had. At this point the host family realized they hadn’t warned her away from that area of the city. They couldn’t believe she hadn’t been harassed, hurt… or worse.
Even more surprising was the fact that when she got to the airport, a young couple she had spoken to a few times was there. They had wanted to ask her for a Bible but were afraid to do it in their neighborhood.
God was her Rock, her Shield, and her High Tower.
He kept her safe from any harm. He also kept her new friends safe, opening the doors to keeping their hearts and souls from Satan by bringing them the hope of salvation.
What do I value more: God delivering me from my sins, or God delivering me from earthly harm? Why? Which type of deliverance does He feel is most important?
Lord God, Please be my Rock, my Strength, my Refuge. Deliver me from sin and from my own prideful self. Please prepare the way before me and help me to follow where You lead. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
