Those who love your law have great peace. Nothing causes them to stumble.
I had almost three years of compulsory South Korean military service.
Once, I had a higher-ranking soldier who had previously been a gang leader. I was afraid to see him because I knew how much physical and mental discouragement would result. I obeyed him because I feared the repercussions if I didn’t.
Another time, I had a devoted Christian commander. He loved the men in his command. He always listened to me, asking me if I was doing OK. He gave us exceptional food. He tried to provide us with better supplies and uplifting encouragement. He solved my problems. I did what he wanted me to do joyfully, with all my heart, because I knew he would only ask me to do things for my benefit and wellbeing.
In today’s verse, the psalmist says you will have great peace with God if you love His law.
You can love God’s law. God is like a good commander. He will only give you laws that give you great peace. That peace involves prosperity, happiness, contentment, and divine blessings. His law is positive, vibrant, and wholesome.
Yes, His law is an expression of His love for you.
So, when you read the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:3-17), love them because they are God’s expression of love to you and for you.
How does God’s law fill me with peace?
Dear God, I love Your law so much. It gives me great peace as it reflects Your character. Please keep me from stumbling, but when I fall, thank You for Your endless grace. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
