The Benefits of Obeying the Lord

“We must obey God rather than men,” Peter and the early apostles said when the authorities tried to stop them spreading the Good News of Jesus (Acts 5:29). They knew that obeying God brings benefits to which nothing on earth can compare.
Obeying God fills me with courage
Acts 5:27-29
When they had brought them, they set them before the council. The high priest questioned them, saying, “Didn’t we strictly command you not to teach in this name? Behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and intend to bring this man’s blood on us.” But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men.”
Obeying God leads to prosperity
Job 36:11-12
If they listen and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures. But if they don’t listen, they shall perish by the sword; they will die without knowledge.
God blesses those who obey Him
Deuteronomy 11:13-14
It shall happen, if you shall listen diligently to my commandments which I command you today, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul, that I will give the rain for your land in its season, the early rain and the latter rain, that you may gather in your grain, your new wine, and your oil.
Obeying God allows Him to fulfill His promises
Deuteronomy 6:18
You shall do that which is right and good in the LORD’s sight, that it may be well with you and that you may go in and possess the good land which the LORD swore to your fathers.
Obeying God is a matter of life and death
Deuteronomy 30:15-16
Behold, I have set before you today life and prosperity, and death and evil. For I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in his ways and to keep his commandments, his statutes, and his ordinances, that you may live and multiply, and that the LORD your God may bless you in the land where you go in to possess it.
Obeying God leads to my success
Deuteronomy 29:9
Therefore keep the words of this covenant and do them, that you may prosper in all that you do.
Obedience to God brings peace
Philippians 4:9
The things which you learned, received, heard, and saw in me: do these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
