Motivations are a funny thing.

We want people to have pure intentions and motives when it involves how they relate to us. Yet, sometimes our own intents and motivations are not so pure in relating to other people.

We have wants and needs that color our reasons for doing things, whether we realize it or not. For instance, we might have multiple motives for helping out our neighbor. For instance, we may truly want to better their situation, or maintain a good relationship with them, or look good in the eyes of others.

Our daily decisions may have more underlying causes than we initially realize. The same is true in our spiritual life. We have multiple reasons for our religious involvement and relationship with Jesus.

One reason humanity has for believing in Jesus is that we do not want to die in our sins. John 8:24 says that we will die in our sins unless we believe in Jesus Christ. As part of fallen humanity, if we simply let the natural consequences play out, our sin will lead to eternal death.

However, out of His deep love for us, God provided a solution. Jesus died to save us from our sins and if we choose to believe in Him, we will be saved.
