Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
In the kingdom of God, purity is a heart posture towards the Almighty.
God is pure. Nothing toxic can taint Him. His love for His creation is pure, deep, and abiding.
In Matthew 5, after seeing the large crowd, Jesus goes up on the mountain, sits down, and begins to share keys to the kingdom of God. In His sermon, He speaks of blessings and ways that people can access these blessings.
In verse eight, He says that those with pure hearts will see God. How does Jesus define pure when no one on Earth is sinless?
Since Romans 3:23 tells us that all have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory, we know that God defines purity as our disposition toward Him, not our sinlessness.
A pure heart brings with it many blessings. A person whose heart is pure before God is a person who lives in a sincere relationship with Him. The blessing of a pure heart is found in an intimate relationship with God.
Then, as we draw closer to God and away from sin, we are blessed to see God in a whole new light because if we’re honest and open to God, He reveals Himself to us and draws us closer to His heart of divine purity.
How can I cultivate a pure heart? What blessings can I expect when I do so?
Gracious God, Please grant me a pure heart so I can see You more clearly. Please fill me with Your blessings of purity. May I never take my eyes away from You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
