But the saints of the Most High will receive the kingdom, and possess the kingdom forever, even forever and ever.
Long-distance relationships are hard.
When I began dating my husband, our relationship started off as a long-distance romance. We would spend hours on video chat and on the telephone during the early days of our courtship. It was a challenge that we were determined to make work because we cared deeply about nurturing our new relationship. The man who became my husband had made plans about his future which included me, and I had done the same.
Eventually, our perseverance paid off on our wedding day.
As Christians, we are in a long-distance relationship with God. And just as my husband had made plans for me to be in his future, God’s plan includes us living with Him forever.
In Daniel 7, Daniel has a prophetic dream filled with terrifying beasts, each representing an earthly kingdom. The chapter reads like a scene from a comic book movie until we find a beautiful promise sandwiched between two verses of prophecy.
Verse 18 holds a promise for you and me: God’s people will receive and possess His kingdom and, unlike all other kingdoms, God’s kingdom will last forever, without an end.
As believers, we’re guaranteed a happily ever after. God’s perseverance and His long-distance love will pay off in due time, in His eternal kingdom.
What can I do today to advance God’s kingdom? How often do I tell others about God’s promise to give His children His kingdom?
Heavenly Lord, When life gets hard, I am encouraged to know that You’ve made future plans with me in mind. I look forward to spending eternity with You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
