A friend recently told me about a couple who married in their old age.

Both had been married before, the woman for 44 years to a husband who passed away, and the man to a wife who was now divorced from him. The woman had had a fairly good marriage, but she was adamant she would stay single. The man had experienced a bad marriage the first time around, but he was determined to let God lead.

As they got to know each other, she reiterated that she would never marry again. But, as all good romance stories go, they fell deeply in love and united their lives. As the years passed, he declared that he had never in all his life felt so loved!

No matter what our current marital state, we have this promise of a new marriage where God rejoices in us just as we rejoice in Him. This is the source of true joy — to be united with the Lord. The garments of salvation, the robe of righteousness are His gifts to us. We’re too poor and broken by sin to afford them, but He loves us and as we submit to His leading in our life, we become dressed for an eternity of rejoicing!
