The LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it. The LORD God commanded the man, saying, “You may freely eat of every tree of the garden.”
God created Adam and Eve perfect.
He made them without defects or flaws. Even in perfection, God saw that it was good for humanity to work. He gave Adam and Eve a flourishing garden full of all manner of fruits. While it would be easy for God to make the trees and plants take care of themselves, God thought it best to let Adam and Eve work for their food. He knew that being idle was not good for them. He gave them everything they needed to have a happy, fulfilled life.
God still cares for us today.
He still wants to give us everything we need, but He also wants us to have meaningful employment. That’s why He has asked us to partner with Him in spreading the good news of His love to the world.
God knows our needs and sorrows.
He knows that sometimes we need time to learn to trust in Him. Sometimes we need to overcome a challenge to strengthen our spirits. Sometimes we need a compassionate friend to talk to. Whatever we need, God wants to give it to us.
All we have to do is ask.
What work does God have for me today?
Dear God, You know what is best for me today, tomorrow, and forever. Please give me what I need today. And please guide and strengthen me as I work for You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
