Surrounded by Blessings

by Beatrice Jean-Baptiste

Genesis 49:25

Even by the God of your father, who will help you, by the Almighty, who will bless you, with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lies below, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb.

Jacob was on the verge of death and called for his sons to surround him.

One by one, he shared his heart with each son. When it was Joseph’s turn to receive his father’s final words, Jacob lavished him with blessings. A blessing was more than just kind sentiments. Back then, family blessings carried weight. Jacob desired Joseph to be blessed exceedingly and abundantly.

He wanted no stone unturned when it came to Joseph’s blessing because Joseph had experienced great pain and now his time of triumph had come.

Jacob invoked the blessings of the same God who blessed his life despite his shortcomings. He benefitted from those blessings and he wanted his son to be blessed beyond what even he had received. Jacob had lost years in his son’s life and now that he had come to the end of his journey, he wanted his son to enjoy a good life.

The Bible is clear. Your heavenly Father desires to bless you. God wants to lavish you with His favor and protection so your life is surrounded by blessings. Despite the obstacles you may face, God promises to give you the victory and surround you with blessings from above, beneath, and everywhere in between.

Reflection

How can I become more aware of God’s blessings in my life?

Prayer

Dear God, I praise You that every promise of God in Jesus Christ is “Yes” and “Amen.” Thank You that I am surrounded by blessings from above, beneath, and everywhere in between. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
