Therefore don’t be anxious, saying, “What will we eat?,” “What will we drink?” or, “With what will we be clothed?” For the Gentiles seek after all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
I was convinced my parents were mind readers. They seemed to know my childish needs before I ever told them.
Every school year, I resisted telling them that I needed new shoes. I knew they worked hard. I knew they had many responsibilities. “Why bother them with one more?” I reasoned. So, through the summer, I tried to ignore that my toes had begun to press against the front of my sandals. Finally, when I could no longer bear imagining day after day of a school year walking with cramped toes, I told them of my need.
Calmly, they pulled out a shoe box from their closet. Inside? A pair of shiny, new, brown leather loafers in my size. Before I shared my need, they already had it in store!
How did they know?
For one thing, they had the knowledge to predict that a small child wouldn’t be able to wear the same shoes forever. Secondly, they were watching me and saw my steady summer growth.
What anxiety harasses you? Take it to your heavenly Parent. His knowledge is all-surpassing. He watches over you, paying attention to the most minute details. He has exactly what you need waiting for you in His storehouses. It will be the perfect fit for you.
All you need to do is ask.
What things cause me to try carrying my cares myself? What deterrents keep me from giving them to God?
Dear God, Thank You that You are not disinterested, uncaring, or distracted. Thank You for being loving, caring, and attentive to my every need. In Christ’s name I pray, Amen.
