The chameleon is an interesting creature in God’s creation.

The chameleon changes colors to blend into its environment so predators won’t see it. In other words, changing colors often means the difference between life and death for the chameleon.

In many ways, we are like the chameleon.

We need to let Jesus change the color of our hearts so the predator Satan does not devour us.

As sinners, our hearts are black. When we accept Jesus as Savior, our hearts are turned red by His blood shed on the cross. Then, Jesus’ miraculous saving grace changes our hearts from red to pure white — the white that says we are righteous before God because of Jesus.

We must be careful, though, because unlike the chameleon, who changes its colors depending on where it’s at, once the color of our heart has been changed, it needs to stay that way. We shouldn’t change color based on who we are with, where we are, or whatever is going on around us.

Just like the chameleon’s ability to change colors allows it to live, so our willingness to let Jesus change the color of our hearts gives us an eternity of life in Christ.
