Lord and Master

John 5:28-29
Don’t marvel at this, for the hour comes, in which all that are in the tombs will hear his voice, and will come out; those who have done good, to the resurrection of life; and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment.
Is Jesus the tender shepherd?
Yes.
Is He the humble servant?
Of course.
Is Jesus our friend and guide?
He is.
But, Jesus is also Lord. He is not just a supervisor or administrative authority. He is God the Son; the Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. While Jesus is full of understanding compassion for our lives, He is also our Lord and Master, the judge over all creation.
No one comes to the Father but through Jesus.
One day, Jesus will judge the world for how they viewed Him, for how they responded to His call for salvation, and for what they did with His gift of salvation once they had it. We will all have to answer for whether we made the choice to believe in Jesus as Lord and Master and lived our lives for Him.
“The hour comes,” Jesus says in today’s verse, “when everyone who has ever lived and died will have to face the consequences of their actions while alive.”
How you live for Jesus depends on how you see Him.
Live for Him as your humble Shepherd and friend. But also live for Him as your Lord and Master.
Reflection
How do I pray to Jesus — as my friend or as my Lord? Thankfully, He is both. How can I pray to Jesus, respecting all of His qualities?
Prayer
Dear Jesus, I surrender to You now as Lord and Master of my life. Please forgive me for my sins and cover them with Your righteousness. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. In Your name I pray, Amen.
