Lost Sheep

by Katelyn Molloy

Luke 15:5-6

When he has found it, he carries it on his shoulders, rejoicing. When he comes home, he calls together his friends and his neighbors, saying to them, “Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep which was lost!”

Sometimes it’s easy to think that God doesn’t care.

After all, this world is so terrible, and things only seem to be getting worse.

But the Bible tells a different story. It tells of a God Who loves us so much He would chase us into Hell to save us. Of a God willing to die for us so we could be with Him.

This verse exemplifies that. It’s the happy ending of a parable about a lost sheep.

Aren’t we all a little like that sheep sometimes? Helpless, in the dark, without any idea of where to go, where to turn?

When the shepherd sees the sheep is missing, he goes out to find it. Jesus is like that Shepherd. When He sees that one of His children is gone, He doesn’t think, “it’s their fault for leaving.” Instead, He rushes out into the night to find us.

When He finds us, He doesn’t punish us for leaving. He lifts us up and places us gently on His strong shoulders. He promises to take us home with Him and throw a celebration for us. Because He’s so happy we let Him rescue us!

If you, or someone you know is like a lost sheep, know that Jesus is looking for you. Let Him find you today.

Reflection

Has Jesus found me? What sort of celebration do I imagine He threw in heaven over me when I turned to Him? How do I celebrate others who turn to Jesus?

Prayer

Gentle Shepherd, Thank You for celebrating everyone who turns to You. Please help me remember that You are God and You are in control. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
