For our citizenship is in heaven, from where we also wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Citizenship would seem to be a basic human right. But, there are ten million people that presently have no claim to any country, ten million people that have no right to an education, to work or to healthcare.
According to the United Nations, the number of displaced people has hit record-breaking numbers. Over 60 million have been forced from their homes because of war or disaster. Most of these are wandering within their country’s borders, but about 20 million are fleeing to any place that will give them refuge, 10 million of these can find no country to care for them.
Our good God knows that belonging is important. Groups of people need leadership. He has extended heavenly citizenship to all. Anyone can become a part of His Kingdom. Everyone can ask for His justice, His counsel, His care. Even the homeless can find refuge in Him.
Heavenly citizenship has all these benefits now and forevermore. Regardless of how well our manmade governments are caring for us, God is King over them all. One day we will rest under His perfect care.
