Though he stumble, he shall not fall, for the LORD holds him up with his hand.
As a young man, I caught my wife cheating with another person. Infidelity destroyed my marriage and I found myself stranded and alone.
Often, when our plans for life crumble around us, we look to ourselves for answers. “Why did this happen to me?” we wonder.
We may start blaming ourselves. Depression and anxiety start taking over our lives. Perhaps people we thought were friends start to venture away from us. Life becomes a chore.
People are imperfect. That includes me. And it includes you.
When the Psalmist wrote Psalm 37, he knew this. The whole chapter carries the antidote to a crumbling life: Trust in God. Wait for Him. Rest in Him. Yes, evil exists. Sometimes it feels overwhelming. But God’s got this.
People will let you down. You may even stumble and let someone else down. But Jesus never fails. God is the strength you never knew you had. His promises are sure.
God is your true friend. He will never betray you or forsake you. He comforts and cries with you, embracing your friendship. No matter how you have stumbled, He showers you with love. Confide your problems to Him. He will keep you from falling.
What plans of mine have crumbled lately? Read the whole chapter of Psalm 37. What verse or verses specifically speak to me at this time? I will commit them to memory and say them aloud today every time I feel overwhelmed.
Dear Lord, Thank You for being my strength in times of struggle. My life is a mess right now. Please take the damaged pieces and make them whole in a way that honors You. Hold me up. Keep me from falling. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
