The Christian Car

by Heather Tietz

Philippians 4:6-7

In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

If your Christian life were a car, today’s verse would be one of the wheels that drives it forward.

This verse is crucial to moving us through living every day; without it, we would lose the air in our figurative tires.

Worry, fear, anxiety, stress, send us tromping along slowly, crookedly, painfully, like a tire losing air. It’s bad on our car and it’s bad for our health — both physical and spiritual. Our nail biting, hand twisting, irritable, restless nights are, perhaps, outward signs that we need a heavenly tune-up.

Worry, fear, anxiety, and stress are stop signals. Halt! Do not go any further. Cease your troubling and pray. God’s mighty hand, like an expert mechanic, is needed.

God knows the number of hairs on your head, the amount of tread on your tire, and how much gas is in your tank. He certainly knows your malfunctions, how they got there, and how to fix them.

So pull over! Dial up the great mechanic. While you’re meditating on the width and breadth, the utter hugeness of the One to Whom you are speaking, God will refill your depleted self with peace. He is bigger. He is greater than it all. He can fix anything.

Reflection

Is my spiritual vehicle working today? What are some other verses that help my spirits stay tuned up and running well?
