The Christian Car

by Heather Tietz

In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:6-7

If your Christian life were a car, this verse would have to be one of the wheels that drive it forward. It is so crucial to moving us through living every day, that without it, we’d lose the air in our figurative tire. Worry, fear, anxiety, stress, send up trumping along slowly, crookedly, painfully, like a tire losing air. It’s bad on our car, it’s bad for our health, all of it, physical and spiritual. Our nail biting, hand twisting, irritable, restless nights are perhaps outward signs that we need a heavenly tune-up.

Worry, fear, anxiety, stress are STOP signals. Halt! Do not go any further. Cease your troubling and pray. God’s mighty hand, like an expert mechanic, is needed. God knows the number of hairs on your head, the amount of tread on your tire and how much gas is in your tank. He certainly knows your malfunctions, how they got there and how to fix them.

So pull over! Dial up the great mechanic. While you’re meditating on the width and breadth, the utter hugeness of the one you are talking to, God will refill your depleted self with peace. He is bigger. He is greater than it all. He can fix anything.
