Yard sales can be a lot of fun.

You get up early and navigate from one sale to the next. At each stop, you go on a treasure hunt, hoping to find an item of great value at the lowest possible price.

Why is this so fun for both buyer and seller?

Because the seller’s trash is the buyer’s treasure. What they consider of little value, you think is worth taking home.

Jesus came to earth and was treated like trash. Israel didn’t recognize Him as Messiah and crucified Him. But other Jews and a whole world of non-Jews did recognize the treasure before them. They were happy to take Christ home into their hearts.

Even today, so many reject Jesus for who He is. Don’t be surprised by this. But also don’t assume that everyone rejects Him. What the Gospels show is that those who recognize Christ’s value are often those we least expect.

Don’t turn these children of God away when they come hoping to find the treasure so many others have rejected — the treasure you’re so thrilled to have found yourself.
