Every Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, that each person who belongs to God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
While it is true…every scripture is from God and of value, this verse is especially important because it is an affirmation. When people ask you why you believe what you believe or why you believe the Bible is true. Because God says so, that’s why!
While this affirmation is important, these verses have much, much more to say. Not only is every scripture God-breathed, every scripture is:
Profitable for teaching—The Bible is a learning tool. It is to be our guidebook for living life.
For reproof—The Bible is very clear when it comes to defining both sin and its consequences. God is our heavenly Father—the Father who isn’t afraid to discipline us for our disobedience.
For correction—Just like a parent corrects misbehavior or bad habits in their children before they become the norm or get them into trouble, the Bible provides correction. It guides us in changing our behaviors and thoughts in a more Godly direction so that we don’t get caught up in the sins of this world without realizing what we’re doing.
Instruction in righteousness—the righteousness of Christ is given to us, not because of any merit on our part, but as a free gift from God. Anything contrary to what the Bible says is not; meaning that as Christians, the Bible is to be our final authority on all aspects of life.
Thoroughly equipped for every good work—teaching, reproof, correction, and instruction...it’s the complete package for living a life that mirrors the heart, hands, and feet of Jesus.
It is the life you are meant to live—the one God created for you.
