But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. You will be witnesses to me in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the uttermost parts of the earth.
Have you ever tried to use a laptop, only to realize you forgot to plug it in and the battery was dead?
A computer with a drained battery is no use to anyone until it is connected to a power source and powered up. Sometimes, we Christians have more in common with that laptop than we care to admit. We need to be reminded to stay plugged in and powered up.
The book of Acts is filled with accounts of God’s extraordinary work in the lives of ordinary people.
Acts begins with the disciples watching Jesus ascend to heaven. Before leaving, He promises to empower them with the Holy Spirit so they will be able to effectively witness to others about the gospel.
We, too, need the Holy Spirit to empower us.
Our impact as Christians is directly related to our connection to the Holy Spirit, which allows us to magnify Christ in our everyday lives. It is God’s joy to bless us with His Spirit. The first step is to ask with all your heart (Luke 11:13) and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit by faith.
Then you will be powered up to do great things for the kingdom of God!
Am I plugged into the source of all power, or do I need to power up?
Precious Lord, Please grant me Your Holy Spirit. I want to be empowered to witness to others about the goodness of God. Use me to bring glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
