How to Break the Worry Habit

by Pastor Ken

Psalm 55:22

Cast your burden on the LORD and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.

Worrying can create an unwanted and unexpected tsunami of evil by giving your enemy an invitation to take up residence in your heart and mind. Worrying is a bad habit. When you worry, you aren’t giving things over to God in faith that He can and will take care of them.

So, how do you break the habit of worrying?

First, put the past in the past. Forget the past and look forward to what lies ahead (Philippians 3:13).

Then, pray! Ask God’s direction for your present and your future. Instead of worrying about anything, pray about everything — including your worries. As you pray, listen for God’s guidance and obey it when it comes.

Next, thank God as if He already solved your problems. Let His peace guard your heart and mind.

The promise of today’s verse is clear: when we give our worries to God, He will sustain us. Cast all your worries on Him (1 Peter 5:7) and press on toward the goal for the prize of His high calling (Philippians 3:14).

Reflection

How can I empty my worry-filled heart and fill it with Jesus?

Prayer

Dear Lord, Please rid my heart and mind of all anxiety, then fill me with Your peace, courage, and calm assurance. I cast my burdens on You today. Please let me have Your victory over my worries. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
