Our Soulmate

by Heather Tietz

1 Peter 1:8-9

Whom, not having known, you love. In him, though now you don’t see him, yet believing, you rejoice greatly with joy that is unspeakable and full of glory, receiving the result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

Psychologist Neil Clark Warren incorporated over thirty-five years of research into one of the world’s largest match-making websites: E-harmony.

The site is based on the belief that matching foundational values and characteristics of people will lead to lasting relationships. Thousands take the site’s questionnaire every day. Thousands marry every week, after first connecting online.

We have a soulmate too: Jesus.

He is our compatible match. He shares our foundational values: loving God, and loving others with the same eagerness that we love ourselves.

The core traits Jesus has, we eagerly emulate: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control.

Like any passionate love, we have invited Him into our heart. The thought of Him puts a lightness in our step, peace in our hearts, and a smile on our face. He is on our mind. We look forward to spending time with Him, praising Him, telling Him our stories, giving Him our ailments and our dilemmas to fix. We are eager for His comfort.

The Bible is Jesus’ love letter, waiting for you to read it. Be sure to spend some time every day soaking up Jesus’ words for you and feeling loved.

Reflection

In what way do I most love to spend time with God?

Prayer

Dear Lord, Thank You for loving me and for providing a way for my salvation. I will study Your words, memorizing them and hiding them in my heart. I look forward to the day when I can see You face to face. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
