“But blessed are your eyes, for they see; and your ears, for they hear.”
The young boy listened intently to the story his mother told about his deceased father.
While still alive, his dad had a vivid dream. In the dream, he took his cart and horse and left the village, turning onto the main road towards town. It was just before dawn and no one else was traveling.
As he neared a large forest, he saw a man step out of the shadows and approach him.
“Show me the light,” the man said.
Dad awoke and the dream ended. He went back to sleep, but again the dream awakened him.
He began pacing the floor. When his wife awoke, he repeated the dream to her.
“Maybe you should go,” she said.
“Why? I have no business in town,” he responded. But realizing that God might be sending him, he dressed, hitched the horse to the cart, and began his nocturnal ride.
And the events of his dream happened just as he had seen them! The man wanted to know about God, so Dad invited him into the cart where they talked many hours.
“I wish I could experience God like that,” the boy said.
“You can,” his mother replied, “but you don’t meet God firsthand through secondhand experiences. You must have a personal encounter with Him.”
How have I met up with God firsthand? What blessings have resulted from my encounters?
Dear God, bless me with a firsthand experience. Open my eyes and ears to see and hear people around me the way You do. In Jesus’ name, I pray that You will guide me, Amen.
