Shining Faces, Shining Souls

by Katelyn Molloy

Ecclesiastes 8:1

Who is like the wise man? And who knows the interpretation of a thing? A man’s wisdom makes his face shine, and the hardness of his face is changed.

The things with which we surround ourselves cannot help but affect us.

They change us. Transform us.

Just as what we eat affects how our body performs, the things we feed our brains affects how we think and act.

That reminds me of a story in Exodus 34:29-35. When Moses came down from Mount Sinai to give God’s law to the Israelites, his face was shining from being in God’s presence. When he got to the camp, everyone was afraid to go near him.

He calmed them down and gave them God’s law, but afterward he put a veil over his face. When he would speak with God in the tent of meeting, he took the veil off. But when he came out of the tent, and had passed on what God had to say, the Israelites would see how brightly his face shone and he would put the veil back on until He talked with God again.

Like Moses, when we spend time in God’s presence, we are transformed.

We may not see any physical differences as Moses did, but we can recognize a spiritual difference.

Like a mirror, the more time we spend soaking in God’s light, the more we can reflect Him. Our faces might not shine, but our souls certainly will.

Reflection

How much time do I spend with God every day, soaking in His presence? How much time do I spend focusing on other things? What is currently causing the most transformation in my life?

Prayer

Dear Lord, I want to spend more time in Your presence. Please fill me with Your wisdom. Transform my life. Please help me to reflect Your love to others. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
